Commissions

An original commissioned oil painting can be a wonderfully personal piece to cherish for many years to come.

Alongside creating my own collections, I also love working directly with clients to create their own special piece of art. How the process works is explained below, and if you’ve any further questions please feel free to get in touch.

If you’d like to be added to my Commissions waiting list please message me via the Contact page. Or alternatively you can sign up to my mailing list below to be first to hear of upcoming availability!

I love working to capture a moment in time and hold it still in paint.

COMMISSION PROCESS

  • Ideas and price: First we discuss your ideas and photo reference and agree the painting size and final price

  • Deposit and prep: A 50% upfront deposit is required and preparations begin for the new painting

  • Creative process: The painting process begins and the commissioned piece of work is created, with client updates along the way.

  • Drying, varnish, balance: Once complete, the painting is allowed time to dry and a protective varnish applied. The remaining 50% balance is due at this stage.

  • Framing: When full payment is received, the painting is then bespoke framed by my professional framers. (If you would prefer the painting left unframed, just let me know at start of process, the price can be adjusted accordingly.)

  • Painting delivery: The finished piece of work is then packaged carefully and shipped to client’s address using An Post Registered post… ready to hang on your wall! Delivery to Republic of Ireland is covered in agreed price, delivery to other locations can be arranged at additional cost.

  • Enjoy: Time to sit back and enjoy your new specially commissioned piece of art!

PRICING GUIDE

This chart aims to give an idea of my commission pricing for up to two faces/figures in the image. These are popular canvas sizes, however other canvas sizes can be quoted for.

Portrait commissions of several people (i.e. a family group) are quoted for separately depending on number of people, size of work etc.

My pricing includes high quality bespoke framing in a timber box frame without glass, an example of which can be seen above. If you would prefer a different style of frame, or prefer the piece to be left unframed, please indicate this at the outset and the price can be adjusted accordingly.

Prices also include tracked shipping in the Republic of Ireland. Delivery to other locations can be quoted separately.

SOME THINGS TO BEAR IN MIND…

  • My commission work runs along similar subjects to those from my own collections, mainly figurative/portrait (children, adults), street scenes and place icons (i.e. Poolbeg chimneys of Dublin).

  • Client provides one chosen reference image for the commission to be based on. I can help with selection process from a shortlist if required.

  • The amount of time a piece can take depends on many factors and it is best to allow the process to happen naturally. I keep clients up to date on progress as it happens, so you have an idea of when you can expect your finished piece.

  • It can be helpful to remember that a commissioned piece of art is an artist’s interpretation, and not intended to be an exact copy or photo realistic.

  • Framing original oil/acrylic works without glass has become very popular as it allows the viewer to get up close and fully appreciate the colour and texture of the artwork. The varnish on the painting gives the artwork its protection.

  • Bespoke commissioned artworks are non-returnable and non-refundable.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

My painting was the most wonderful surprise Christmas gift, specially commissioned by my husband. It captures a moment in time when our four beautiful granddaughters were all together. It is amazing how Sharon has managed to portray their individual personalities and enjoyment of being together. It makes me smile every time I walk into the room and has been admired by many visitors. Our painting will be treasured forever, and we are extremely happy to recommend Sharon for your special commission piece without any hesitation.

My wife and I decided to commission a painting of our son and his wife, from a photo taken at their wedding. Sharon engaged with us on a personal level and took us on this journey with professionalism and incredible care and attention to detail. We were amazed and overjoyed at the result, our expectations were met above and beyond. We have no hesitation in recommending Sharon to take on your special commission, trust me when I say... you will not be disappointed.

The portrait Sharon created of our son is now the treasure I would save from a fire. She captured the play of sunlight on his hair, the hush, his quiet concentration – she has distilled and bottled the essence of that moment for us so that it will never age.
